April 2010 - Scribbles for Success
St. Elizabeth Business Students Aim to “Save the World”
One Pencil at a Time
Three of our grade 12 business students, Giulia Pizzuto, Patrick Kalinowski,
and Cristina Rossi, under the supervision of Mr. Kenny Ho took 1st place in the CA Philanthropy Competition called “Save the World Challenge”.
Hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (I.C.A.O.), this competition required students to submit innovative business plans that would make the planet a better place. On Friday, April 23rd, 2010, our St. Elizabeth team placed first provincially and was awarded a $10,000 prize; $5,000 to be shared among the recipients and $5,000 to make the initiative come to life.
Giulia, Patrick, and Cristina created a non-profitable organization called
L.I.N.K. Corporation (Leading Initiatives to Nurture Kids). Specifically, the
company’s main initiative, “Scribbles for Success”, allows students to collect slightly used school supplies (pencils, pencil crayons, sharpeners, notebooks, etc.) to be donated to underprivileged students in developing countries.
